The Art of Being Thankful

“To show oneself grateful, to be thankful, to give thanks.”

What does the word thankful mean to you? How do you maintain this powerful presence of mind in your daily life?

Being thankful is one of the expressions I have chosen to purposely engage in across every area of my life. The good and the bad I have made a practice that be thankful for the experience recognizing it will all turn out for my benefit in the end. Being thankful and having faith are practices to apply together.

Thankfulness is not a decision in your head, its a decision from the heart, a way to view your life and all the ups and down through your journey. There is specific meaning for our life, you are here for a reason. I have learned that if we sincerely live with thankful heart, how we see the world and the meaning of our life changes.

We often hear about the practice of gratitude, yet the practice of thankfulness cultivates a grateful heart.

I am currently writing a book that will release the fall of 2022. In it, there is a section about reshaping your heart. This is something I did years ago after working though some difficult situations that transpired in my life. Making a decision to activate my heart and make a commitment to myself to live a life of thankfulness and gratitude has changed my entire world view. Every difficult moment, I do my best to tie it into my faith and be thankful and at every wonderful moment, I am ever so grateful that it was part of my life.

Everything in life is perspective. Reshaping your heart to be authentically thankful is a presence of mind that will create a foundation for you to become our own beautiful masterpiece.

Here are some of my favorite ways to cultivate thankfulness:

  • Notice good things, look for them, appreciate them
  • Express your gratitude to yourself, write it down or thank someone
  • Touch someone when you say thank you – just a simple touch of the arm
  • Act without reward
  • Be present
  • Have courage
  • Keep a gratitude journal
  • Don’t complain

Happy Thanksgiving 2021
