Why 10,000 Steps?

I think I first heard from Dr. Oz that is was best for our overall health to take at least 10,000 steps per day. Now we have all heard this over the years from various health specialists. But why 10,000 steps, what is the science behind it? I try to get in at least 10,000 steps every day – do you?  I was curious to know why 10,000 steps makes such a difference in our health and found this great article in USA today. 

You may be surprised based on your lifestyle – how much you really do move, or maybe how much you really don’t! I love tracking everything, it helps me stay accountable and forces me to make time for myself to stick with my health goals.

Let me know how many steps you take every day, make sure to get a pedometer so you can track your day.  Commit yourself this week to take 10,000 steps everyday no matter what, tell us how you feel both physically and mentally.
