WELLNESS FOR BUSY MOM(PRENEUR)S WITH ALI LANDRY

MOM MASTERMINDS
I’m so excited to officially launch our new series, Mom Masterminds, where we will be sharing with you amazing practical advice for moms and mompreneurs from our favorite mom muses. To kick it off, we have some amazing insights from one of our faves – Ali Landry!

MEET ALI

Ali was first introduced to the HAPPYMOM community as a keynote speaker for Happy Mom Conference 2019, where she shared amazing tips for reshaping your life and being mindful in all areas. She is an actress, host, child safety advocate, and the creator of RE/SHAPE, which just launched a beautiful new website for sharing all the excellent curated resources, education, professional services, and products she personally uses and loves. She’s also been hard at work on her first book and is currently talking with a publisher! We’re so excited to see it take shape next year!

Because she is so passionate about wellness through RE/SHAPE and in her own personal life, we asked Ali to share with us her five essential tips for being well and happy as a mom/mompreneur. Here’s what she had to say:

ALI’S TOP 5 WELLNESS TIPS

1. START YOUR DAY OFF RIGHT

The way you start your day can be the first step to RESHAPING your life. The goal is to wake up before your children – ideally an hour before. Spend 20 minutes moving your body. The idea is to get your blood flowing to your brain. Do a few squats, jump on a mini trampoline, walk briskly around the house, go up and down the stairs a few times.

Then spend the next 20 minutes in meditation or prayer. Set up a small space in your house where you can light a candle, maybe burn palo Santo or incense. This area should be clear of clutter and even better if it is in front of a window where you can look out at nature. Take this sacred time and create ceremony around it. Take deep breaths, clear your mind, and calm your spirit. Empty out all of your worries and anxiety and focus on gratitude and love.

The final 20 minutes: read. In your special spot have several of your favorite books. Whether it is a self help book, a book of poems or affirmations, a prayer book, or another inspirational book. Each day pick the book that is speaking to you. Maybe you read just a few pages and then reflect on what you read. I love having a journal there as well so as soon as I am finished reading I write down any thoughts or ideas that came to mind during my alone time. I may also write down any revelations, clarity or a-ha moments that came up during my meditation and prayer time. I also like to jot down my goals for the day, how I want to be as a person walking through my life and how I want to show up for myself and others. I always end with gratitude and affirmations. I promise you, if you can make this commitment each morning, it will be one of the greatest gifts you can ever give to yourself.

2. DRINK WATER!

We hear this so often that most of the time it goes in one ear and out the other, but it is one of the simplest things we can do benefit our health, our minds, and our bodies. We all drink water, but we don’t all drink enough of it. We rarely get enough water into our system on a daily basis for our body to function optimally. I started the habit of drinking at least 3-4 liters of water a day. When I get that water in, my skin looks better, my digestion is on tract (I struggle with this a lot), I feel less bloated, I don’t gain weight.

The best tip I can give you is to get 1 liter of water first thing in the morning. Do not put anything else in your mouth, not even coffee until you get that liter down. I like to have that liter already filled up on the side of my bed so as soon as I open my eyes I can start to get it down. Just doing this alone will rehydrate your body after going without liquid all night while you were sleeping, flush out toxins, and get your digestion started. Another tip is to get a gallon water bottle filled up each day and know that that is your goal: to get it all down.

3. MOVE YOUR BODY EVERY DAY

I want you to change your mindset about fitness. I feel like for myself I go in and out of dedicated, more intense training, but I always try to remind myself that consistency is key. I don’t necessarily have to be committed to a class or a specific type of training as long as I commit to myself to move daily. It is just as important for my mind and my emotions as it is for my overall body conditioning. Be intentional about staying active, even in these chilly winter months. There are so many amazing online classes offered right now, or you can even just take the kids and the dog for a walk in your neighborhood. Just be sure you are moving everyday.

4. DECLUTTER YOUR HOME

It’s amazing how much stuff we collect over time. I love the quote by Chistina Scalise, “Clutter is the physical manifestation of unmade decisions fueled by procrastination.”

Clutter in my home clouds my mind preventing clarity, hinders my productivity, and even affects my sense of peace. RESHAPE your mindset around consumption. Buy things you need and love. Surround yourself with beauty and items in your home that you love, that have meaning to you and your family. Stop buying things for the sake of buying, or because it is a new season, or even because of boredom. I fall victim to all of these things as well, but I am really trying my best to be a conscious consumer, buying less. Maybe, just maybe, the life you have always wanted is buried under everything you own, so edit your life and your belongings ruthlessly.

5. RECOGNIZE AREAS IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU DESIRE TO RESHAPE.

Whether it is the quality time you spend with your children, the relationship with your partner, your nutrition or eating patterns, your self care, your health. Dig in. Do the work. Check in with your heart , your mind, and your soul. Journal around that RESHAPE that you desire. Figure out what is standing in your way and what are the steps you need to do to get you there. Never give up on the life you desire for yourself. You are so worth it.
