Farmer’s Market Essentials

What are you favorites from the farmer’s market ?

Heirloom tomatoes are divine, and I also love fresh goat or sheep cheese, cucumbers and herbs.

I feel totally inspired by a beautiful table filled with fresh vegetables. I love food, and gathering not only gorgeous organic produce from the famers market, but knowing that every delicious bite I take is generating healthy cells in my body gives me great satisfaction that I am doing the best I can for my overall health.

I use cucumbers nearly every morning with other greens for what I call, my “get things movin’ in the morning” green juice. For years my digestion was off, and my nutritionist suggested I drink a specific blend of green juice with no fruit each morning. This routine has done wonders for me. Cucumbers promote regularity, they contain antioxidants and are high in nutrients. They may aid in weight loss and lower blood pressure.

Keeping fresh herbs on hand is the best addition to any meal; salads, soups, or sheet tray meals. I love a fresh bunch of basil, mint, cilantro and rosemary.  These herbs are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, boost the immune system, improve circulation and often contain several antioxidants. It’s worth is to make the extra effort and add fresh herbs to your favorite recipes.

Not only are heirloom tomatoes stunning in color and shape, they are juicy and have the most intense tomato flavor. They contain high level of lycopene which is one of the most powerful antioxidants and it helps relieve oxidative stress from our body. They are a rich source of Vitamin C which help nourish the adrenal glands and reduce stress. Heirloom tomatoes are a good source of Vitamin K which is necessary for healthy and strong bones. I love to eat them sliced, at room temperature, with a little flaked sea salt.

Did you know that goat and sheep milk molecular structure is the closest form to human mother’s milk. This is why most people don’t have a reaction to it like typical dairy, as it is very easy to digest. It is high in protein, good fats, calcium, zinc, magnesium, potassium and tryptophan which helps build serotonin in the brain, reduces the feelings of anxiety, and helps us get a good nights sleep . All types of cheese are made from goat and sheep milk; cheddar, gouda, brie and many more. I love exploring and tasting at the cheese booth of our local farmers market.

Make the most out of your weekend farmer’s market. You are supporting your local community and setting yourself up for a week of delicious and healthy eating.
